Carle 'C. B.' Jackson

1899-1988

C.B. Jackson was best known for his skills as pilot, master mechanic and maintenance instructor whose career in aviation spanned more than 60 years from the early airmail flights to modem jet aircraft.

Born in Tama, Iowa, in 1899, C.B. moved around the Midwest with his homesteading parents. He launched his aviation career in 1922, enlisting in the Colorado National Guard as a mechanic and pilot. He. soloed in 1927, receiving his civil pilot and A&P licenses that same year.

The '30s brought many moves with the airmail carriers setting up their service centers across the Rocky Mountain area. In 1939 C.B. was asked by the Wyoming State Department of Education to establish an aircraft  mechanics' school. In 1940, the state opened the Wyoming  Aircraft  School in Cheyenne with C.B. as the supervisor-principal. The school produced CAA certified  airframe and engine mechanics for the war effort.

After the war, C.B. opened his own fixed-base operation in Casper providing Cessna sales and service. Selling his business in 1961, C.B. settled in Worland. While in Worland, he was associated with Sky Aviation, taught aircraft maintenance classes for the Wyoming Boys School, and served as the Worland Airport manager until 1975.

Jackson passed away on December 24, 1988.
