Legislative Air Service Enhancement Program
Recognizing the need for reliable and enhanced commercial air service, in 2004, the Wyoming Legislature enabled the Air Service Enhancement Program (ASEP), which is funded through Senate File 120. Following the program's inception, nine (9) Wyoming communities have participated in the Air Service Enhancement Program with over $35 million being granted towards improving or retaining air service within the state of Wyoming.
Today, the ASEP program remains one of few programs of its kind in the nation and puts Wyoming at a competitive advantage for retaining and attracting air service. However, given the current climate of the airline industry, it has become increasingly difficult to provide assistance to airports and communities when factoring in the escalating costs of providing commercial air service.
Availability remains low as well due to regional airlines suffering from increasingly limited crew resources stemming from regulatory changes and straining the small communities they serve.
Currently, there are six (6) airports participating in the Air Service Enhancement Program:
- Cody – Yellowstone Regional Airport in support of seasonal service on United Express to Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD).
- Cheyenne – Cheyenne Regional Airport in support of twice daily service on American Eagle operated by SkyWest to Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport (DFW).
- Jackson - Jackson Hole Airport in support of expanded winter service on American Airlines to Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport (DFW).
- Riverton – Riverton Regional Airport for support of twice daily service to Denver International Airport on Denver Air Connection in conjunction with Sheridan Regional Airport.
- Rock Springs – Sweetwater County Airport in support of United Airlines jet service to Denver International Airport (DEN) on United Airlines.
- Sheridan – Sheridan County Airport for twice daily service to Denver International Airport (DEN) on Denver Air Connection in conjunction with Riverton Regional Airport.
