The following is an update on the closure of the southbound driving lane on Interstate 25 at about milepost 186.
The closure happened the afternoon of April 4 after WYDOT maintenance crews were notified that a portion of a steel expansion joint on the bridge over Walsh Drive became dislodged. An expansion joint allows a bridge expand and contract with temperature fluctuations. Traffic driving over the damage could have potentially caused additional damage.
WYDOT made the decision to close the lane to assess the situation and to allow time to repair the area. The damage occurred just beyond the end of the southbound onramp from Yellowstone Highway. To avoid any potential conflicts with merging onramp traffic and thru traffic on I-25, it was decided to also close the Yellowstone onramp.
As of today (April 6), no date has been set to reopen the lane and onramp. The speed limit through the area is 60 mph. Traffic to southbound I-25 from Yellowstone has been detoured to the Curtis Street/Wyoming Boulevard interchange.
WYDOT appreciates your patience as we work to make repairs as rapidly as possible.
