Each year, the second full week of April is dedicated to the men and women who serve as public safety telecommunicators. Public Safety telecommunicators are the first contact our citizens have with emergency services. Public Safety telecommunicators are a vital link for law enforcement officers, EMS, and fire by monitoring their radio activities, providing guidance, assistance, and providing information to ensure their safety. Public Safety telecommunicators positively contribute to the successful outcome of many critical situations.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol communications center, located in Cheyenne, is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The communications center never closes for holidays or "snow days," and this is even more evident with our current coronavirus situation. Snow days can be some of the busiest days for the center. Wyoming Highway Patrol telecommunicators often work long hours, missing holidays, family events, and other activities so the center can be adequately staffed. The Wyoming Highway Patrol honors and thanks our telecommunicators and their supportive families for their personal sacrifices and dedication to the profession.

Please take a moment to recognize and say thank you to a telecommunicator or 911 professional in your community because they are there when you need them the most. Due to the impact of the coronavirus, many Communications Centers are unable to celebrate as they typically would next week. With that said, it's imperative to let all of our telecommunicators across the state know how very much you appreciate each one of them as they continue to be there to answer each incoming call and radio transmission when the citizens of Wyoming need them most.
